What Is Family Dentistry?
Our skilled team provides preventative, cosmetic, and restorative procedures for patients of all ages.
Our experienced team provides quality, comprehensive, and preventative dental care for you and each member of your family to help achieve healthy, beautiful smiles.
At The Village Dentist, we focus on delivering preventative care, along with oral hygiene maintenance and education for patients at every stage of life. Many patients also find it convenient to schedule their dental appointments together.
One of the most important aspects of our office is encouraging patients to attend a routine dental exam every six months.
We recommend that you start bringing your child in for a routine exam beginning when their first tooth emerges to help get them acclimated to our dental office. This will not only protect their long-term oral health, but prevent dental phobia and anxiety from developing.
Our fun-loving and caring staff will put you and your child at ease, making the overall experience a positive one.
What to expect from your regular check-up?

One of the most important aspects of our office is encouraging patients to attend a routine dental exam every six months. This serves as the first defense in maintaining healthy oral hygiene and catching potentially serious health conditions, such as gum disease and oral cancer, early when they are most easily treated.
During your routine check-up, we will provide an array of treatments according to your needs.
-
Digital X-Rays
This digital imaging significantly reduces your exposure to radiation and will help determine the health of your teeth and gums.
-
Hygienic Cleaning
One of our caring dental hygienists will carefully eliminate plaque buildup with an ultrasonic scaler and clean your teeth with an abrasive toothpaste and high-quality polisher. She will also take the time to educate you and your child on the proper techniques in brushing and flossing to help you maintain your healthy smile. Your doctor can address any tooth decay and infection with a tooth-colored filling or root canal therapy. We can provide nitrous oxide during treatment for optimal comfort. If severe decay or restorative treatment is needed, we may refer your child to a pediatric dentist.
-
Fluoride and Sealants
We provide fluoride treatment after each cleaning to help strengthen enamel and prevent cavities. For children and pre-teens, we can provide an even stronger line of defense with dental sealants. These plastic coatings cover back molars to prevent tooth decay from developing on the biting surfaces of the teeth.
-
Gum Disease and Oral Cancer Evaluation
Your doctor can also protect your overall oral and physical health by providing additional screenings to detect the earliest symptoms of gum disease and oral cancer and recommend appropriate treatment.
Restorative Dentistry in Canton, MI
We can repair and restore a mild to moderately decayed tooth with durable composite resin, tinted to match the natural look of your smile. Tooth-colored fillings provide a safer and more natural-looking solution than silver amalgam fillings.
When gum disease is detected, we can perform ultrasonic scaling and root planing during a deep cleaning to remove the unhealthy bacteria from below the gum line and root surface of the tooth. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to dental pain, tooth loss, and bone degeneration.
When tooth decay has infiltrated the pulp of the tooth and caused infection, root canal therapy is necessary to save the tooth from extraction. Your doctor will remove the unhealthy pulp, replace it with a special restorative material, and seal the tooth with a dental crown to restore and strengthen it.
If you have a tooth that is severely decayed or damaged and cannot be repaired with a filling or dental crown, we can gently remove the tooth and provide you with a restorative option.
A customized dental crown made from zirconia or IPS e.max® ceramic can cap a tooth that has been severely decayed or damaged. These durable materials are designed to protect, strengthen, and restore a tooth to its natural function. We can also restore a dental implant with a dental crown for patients with missing teeth.
When patients have one or more missing teeth that are adjacent, a bridge can fill in the gap and support the remaining teeth. This type of restoration is designed from a single block of ceramic, with two dental crowns and at least one pontic (false tooth) in between. It can be customized to permanently affix to remaining teeth or dental implants.
If you are seeking a permanent solution to replacing missing teeth, we will refer you to an oral surgeon for dental implant surgery, then restore your implants with a customized dental crown, bridge, or denture.
